New York State Bus Distributors Association

School bus distributors are leading the way in providing zero and near-zero emission school buses to school districts and private school bus operators across our state.

About NYSBDA

The New York State Bus Distributors Association represents school bus distributors (dealers) across New York State that sell, service, maintain, and support the safest, most reliable, and environmentally-friendly school buses in the country.

New York’s school bus distributors are leading the world in providing zero and near-zero emission school buses to school districts and private school bus operators across our state.

New York’s school bus distributors employ over 800 people statewide and service nearly every school district and private school bus operator in the state.

Public-Private Partnership

The unique public-private partnership between school districts and school bus distributors is essential to the safety and success of New York’s massive school transportation system which provides transportation to over 2.3 million children.

School bus distributors provide invaluable support to our school districts in the form of service and repair facilities, fleet planning, parts inventory, hands-on vehicle and technology training, and free education programs.

This public-private partnership saves local taxpayers millions of dollars each year and ensures New York’s school transportation system operates the safest and most environmentally friendly school buses in the country.

Ever-changing Federal and state emissions standards, improvements to safety equipment, and the increasingly complex nature of the school bus makes the relationship between school districts and school bus distributors more important than it has ever been.

School districts rely on school bus distributors and their professional staff to maintain complex bus systems, and train and educate school technicians on new technologies.

School Bus Safety

According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, the number of fatalities of school age children traveling to and from school per 100 million vehicle miles traveled is 70 times higher in passenger vehicles than in school buses.

Students are significantly safer riding to and from school in a school bus than walking, riding bikes, driving to school, or even riding in the family car.

The New York State Bus Distributors Association is committed to ensuring schools have the safest, most reliable, and environmentally friendly school buses on the road.

Operation Safe Stop

Operation Safe Stop is a national initiative which raises awareness about the importance of stopping when you see stopped school bus with its red lights flashing. It is also a day when school districts, private school bus operators, community groups, local police departments across the state work together during a statewide enforcement effort.

The New York Association for Pupil Transportation estimates that on a typical school day, over 50,000 private vehicles illegally pass stopped school buses with their red lights flashing.  Each incident puts school children at risk of injury.  It is important to stay alert and stop when you see a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing — child’s life depends on it.

Operation Safe Stop helps to educate drivers that passing a stopped school bus is dangerous and illegal.
